Elisabeth
Van Mullekom-Cserep. A Hungarian born mother of six, living
at that time in Holland with my Dutch husband. With the
Hungarian and Dutch traditions, Christmas was a very special
time for us.
We always had a Nativity scene and every year it was put
up in different ways. Christmas 1977, I started my collection.
My first exhibition for the public was in Holland and I
saw how many people were interested. In 1983, we immigrated
to Australia and took the Nativity scenes with us.
On September 1, 1990, my greatest dream came true. My husband
and I opened my Christmas museum gallery, Nativity House,
in Horsley Park. Nativity House is open to the public from
October 1st to 24th December every year by appointment for
schools, clubs and tourist groups. The interest is tremendous.
Nativity House displays at the moment nearly 600 Nativity
scenes, from over 60 countries. The materials used are unique
to each country. Silk, gold, wood, ebony, maize leaves,
straw, wood shavings, embroideries, plaster, terracotta,
clay and turtle shell are just some of the materials used
to carve or create a beautiful scene.
Come
and visit Nativity House around the Christmas season. It
will bring beauty to your heart and a more wonderful Christmas
for you.
