With
the third millennium approaching do we realise what we
are really celebrating? Everybody is preparing for the
great event with parades, speeches, promises and shows
to welcome the third millennium.
Do
we think of Jesus?
It will be His 2000th birthday, do we realise that?
Two
thousand years ago His birth in Bethlehem was witnessed
only by a handful of people, the shepherds. Angels announced
His birth, the shepherds were listening and went to look
for Jesus.
They
found Him in a cave, as the angels had said, wrapped in
swaddling clothes, lying in a manger among animals with
Mary His mother and Joseph. They fell on their knees and
gazed at Him in adoration.
Would
we listen to angels today?
Two
thousand years have passed since then and Christmas celebrations
have changed. We can read about the origins, customs and
celebrations of Christmas in many books, but how will
we celebrate this great event, His 2000th birthday.
Have
you, the people, the church, the governments, really stood
still and realised what should be the most important celebration
in Christian counties?
A
blessing from the infant Christ Jesus should be the most
important event to start the new millennium.Christian
leaders of their countries should consider this the most
important event. Many countries will spend billions of
dollars to make the celebration memorable.
Historians
will write in colourful words all the happenings for generations
to come, but will they mention the birth of Jesus 2000
years ago, and its importance in our society today?
Do
we really stand up for our beliefs, though deeds, prayer,
example and forgiveness - all the things Jesus told us
to do? Only then can we impress followers of the other
great religions of the world.
Our
young people are searching for spiritualism in a commercial
and corrupt world. With an event like this millennium
celebration we really should show them what Christianity
is all about, so that they can make a firm choice for
Jesus.
HAPPY
BIRTHDAY JESUS!
